Up on the auction block is a beautiful late 1920’s early 1930’s nine lace metal valve type leather football! The nine laces were first produced in the mid 1920’s and used into the early 1930’s. We included a scan (for reference only) from a 1931 Wilson catalog showing their 9 lace footballs with and metal valves. You can see how the stitching pattern and valves hole match up with this ball. We cannot say for sure it is a Wilson but it does look as though it could be.
As the photos show, the ball is in game used but good shape (see all photos for condition). The leather has light game used surface wear through out but no major damage.
The beautiful patina is 100% worn original. No dyes, colored polishes, or coloring of any kind used. The ball has a great look and nice shine. When we acquired this beast, the bladder was in pieces. We replaced it with a brand new Wilson bladder and laced it up with nice thick antique leather laces. We kept the original metal valve (with cap) and will ship it along with the football (see close-up). There are no visible markings on the football.
Wood display stand is not included.
